My Autumn Fun List

My Autumn Fun List

It’s officially the start of my favorite season of the year, fall! There’s a certain dreamy quality in the air as the leaves start changing colors and inevitably make their final descent before the harsh winter winds strip the branches for good.

Autumn marks the beginning of so many wonderful holidays, and if there is one thing I enjoy, it is the anticipation of a great Turkey feast on Thanksgiving, wrapping presents and trimming a Christmas tree. I want to squeeze every single drop of pumpkin spice out of this magical time which can be difficult at times as fall also tends to be the single busiest time of the year work wise. There are only a few weekends where the leaves are the perfect shade of fiery red and brilliant orange so in order to not lose any time I plan one falltastic activity for every single weekend to get my fill of this beautiful season.

I hope you will be inspired to take some time out of your busy schedule and enjoy the last days of evening sunshine in this most special time of the year.

Here is my 2017 Autumn Fun List

-Go to a pumpkin patch and pick some pumpkins. This is one is a classic. You can’t really go wrong with making an afternoon out of pumpkin picking. I love finding the perfect size pumpkins in a variety of colors to use as harvest decorations throughout the next few months. Just make sure to check out a squirrel repellent guide if you live in area where little critters are known to walk away with your pumpkin (speaking from personal experience).

-Take a scenic walk through fall foliage. My favorite place to go is a nearby forest preserve that overlooks a beautiful lake. Seeing the reflection of all the colorful leaves in the water is truly breathtaking and completely puts me in a zen state of mind. It doesn’t get much better for slowing down my thoughts and really feeling in the moment then a walk along the edge of a lake in autumn.

-Go to a nursery and buy a giant mum. Mums are the quintessential fall flower and where I live there is a nursery that sells giant mums. When I start hearing the advertisements for the giant mums on the radio, I know fall season is truly underway. I enjoy turning this activity into a bit of a date with my husband as we pick out the mum we will be proudly displaying by our front door and then go out to lunch, ideally sitting outside to enjoy the refreshingly crisp air.

-Pick apples and buy/make apple everything. Picking apples in the fall is just such a treat to do. It is one of the times of the year when I get really creative in the kitchen whipping up desserts like apple pie, apple crumble, and apple muffins. I especially like doing this activity with friends, as it gives us a chance to talk and catch up as we walk through the rows and rows of apple trees in the orchard. I also always buy some apple doughnuts for my husband as a special treat since they are especially made during the fall season at the local orchard.

-Take a drive through my neighborhood to take pictures of the fall foliage. I have a photo album on my computer that is nothing but pictures of the most beautiful burnt orange leaves dripping from truly radiant and full trees. It’s the perfect game of I Spy and I like to make it extra special by going over all my snaps once I get home over a cup of hot chocolate while sitting on my front porch swing.

Making memories during this enchanting time is my ultimate goal and with a little activity planned each weekend, I can make sure to get my fill of this most wonderful time of the year.

How will you enjoy fall this year?
